The Crowd at Slane Castle

This is a picture of the crowd at Slane Castle for the U2 gig on August 25th, 2001. With Slane Castle and the River Boyne as back drops, and 80,000 people (with tickets) in attendance to see the best band in the world, rock Ireland for the first time since 97, and Slane for the first time in 20 years, it was nothing short of amazing. Everything including the long walk from the bus to the venue and the 4 hour extravaganza to travel 45K back to Dublin was one of the best experiences of my life. Also performing at Slane were JJ72, Coldplay and The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, as well as a few other bands.

Unless you were actually at this show there is no way I can describe it other than the word amazing, the best concert I will ever go to, hands down. During Kite it seemed that all 80,000 had a piece of liter or trash in their hands, on fire, as Bono gave tribute to his father who had passed away just a few days before. I have never seen a crowd as alive as when U2 played Where The Streets Have No Name. You can see the set list on the next page.

This is not my picture, but you can see why I have put it up.
